Inclusive International Visitor Programming

Lively conversations at 9-10:15 am on Friday, February 6 at the Global Ties U.S. national meeting helps to better understand useful resources and concrete strategies for including people with disabilities in International Visitor Leadership Programs.

Our Global Ties U.S. national meeting session generates thinking about inclusion in International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) planning. Through small group and plenary discussions, participants share best practices about how exchange programs can embody acceptance throughout the project cycle, from development through implementation and closing.

Key questions to be addressed include:

  • What is disability inclusion?
  • Why is inclusion important for international exchange and for visitors?
  • What are the roles of the State Department and exchange organizations in ensuring an all-embracing approach?
  • How can visitors be prepared for meetings with interlocutors with disabilities, and vice versa?
